Richard's father was William (William II) Lord Brereton and his mother was Rt Hon Elizabeth Goring.  His paternal grandparents were Sir John Brereton and Lady Anne Fyton. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named William, Henry, George, John, John, Mary, Anne, Elizabeth, Margaret, Elizabeth, Frances and Jane.  He was the second youngest of the thirteen children.  He died by stillbirth or at birth on September 14th, 1649 in Brereton cum Smethwick.  He was buried on September 14th, 1649 in Bowden.²
