Son of William (Brereton) of Brereton and Margaret Savage
Brewerton is an old English spelling for Brereton, and the family lived at Brereton Hall, Brereton in Cheshire (not Yorkshire). Perhaps they came under the authority of the house of York after the War of the Roses when Richard Duke of York claimed the English throne.
John's father was
Lord William Brereton and his mother was
Margaret Savage. His paternal grandparents were
Sir William Brereton MP and
Jane Warburton. He had two brothers and a sister, named
Robert,
William and
Mary. He was the youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother named
William. He died at the age of 38 on December 28th, 1629 in
Cheshire. He was buried on December 31st, 1629 at
St. Oswalds (Malpas).
