Mary was born in 1813 in Wybunbury and her baptism took place there on June 13th, 1813.1  Mary's father was John Brereton and her mother was Mary Brassington.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton and Jane Whittingham. She had five brothers and two sisters, named George, Thomas, Samuel, William, John, Ann and Elizabeth.  She was the third youngest of the eight children.
