George's father was John Brereton and his mother was Mary Brassington.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton and Jane Whittingham. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Samuel, William, John, Ann, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 69 on March 15th, 1866 in Wybunbury.  He was buried on March 19th, 1866 in Wybunbury.²
