Margaret was born in March 1854 in Staffordshire.1  Margaret's father was Thomas Brereton and her mother was Mary Baskeyfield (Gleaves).  Her paternal grandparents were George Brereton and Margaret Taylor. She had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named George, Charles, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Maria, Fanny and Sarah.
