Hannah was born in June 1838 in Weston (near Crew).1  Hannah's father was William Brereton and her mother was Elizabeth Brockley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and Mary Buckley. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, William, Margaret, Mary and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
