Elizabeth was born in June 1840 in Weston (near Crew).1  Elizabeth's father was William Brereton and her mother was Elizabeth Brockley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Brereton and Mary Buckley. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, William, Margaret, Mary and Hannah.  She was the fourth oldest of the six children.
