Fanny's father was Samuel Brereton and her mother was Hannah Salmon.  Her paternal grandparents were Constantine Samuel Brereton and Margery (Padday) Birchall. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Frank, William, Elizabeth and Hannah.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
