Elizabeth was born in 1846 in Bridgemere.1  Elizabeth's father was Samuel Brereton and her mother was Hannah Salmon.  Her paternal grandparents were Constantine Samuel Brereton and Margery (Padday) Birchall. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Frank, William, Fanny and Hannah.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
