Elizabeth was born in 1836 in Weston (near Crew).1  Elizabeth's father was James Brereton and her mother was Ann Cope.  Her paternal grandparents were George Brereton and Mary Jackson. She had four brothers and a sister, named George, Edward, Emma, Henry and Mary Ann.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
