Humphrey's father was Benjamin Bennett and his mother was Mary Hewitt.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Bennett and Mary Hughes. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Samuel, Banner, Joseph, Mary, Mary, Priscilla, Maria and Martha.  He was the fifth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 6 in December 1854 in Holywell.³
