According to the Millienium file, Edward was the son of John and Anne Bennett.
19 Nov 1760, Edward married Elizabeth Piercy at Northop, Flintshire. They lived at Ashton and Golftyn on the Welsh side of the River Dee eastury.
Between 1761 and 1782, Edward and Elizabeth had 9 children baptised at Northop and Hawarden. Their first son John died in 1777, so another John was baptised in 1779.
Their son Benjamin has a son Capt. John Bennett, one of the pioneer settlers of Utah.

I can find no evidence that the Nathaniel Bennett that died Rhode Island 23 Apr 1871 was born in the USA in 1872. However, we do know the Bennett family were fishermen, pilots and brother Edward a mariner. Also Cap. John Bennett emigrated to Utah. Therefore, the Nathaniel that is buried at Rhode Island my be the same person born in Hawarden. However, burial records show this Nathaniel was the son of Benjamin and Patience Bennett and was married to Bethiah.
The Flintshire probate for Nathaniel Bennett of Flint, Publican who died 30 March 1871 was aged 58 so not him but may be his son. instead, Nathaniel may have died at Stratford on Avon:
