Augustus, known as Gus, was born in March 1907 in Birkenhead.1  Gus' father was Harry Bayley and his mother was Ellen (Nell) Brown.  His paternal grandparents were Augustus Henry Bayley and Mary Bunnell; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Brown and Mary Ann Postans. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Tom, Arthur, Daisy and Helen.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 50 in 1957 in Birkenhead.2

‌Gus and Ellen were married in a religious ceremony in June 1929 in Birkenhead.3  They had four daughters named Joyce, Norma, Sheila and Ann.  There are no more children.
