Augustus' father was Henry Bayley and his mother was Mary Davies.  His paternal grandparents were John Bayley and Elizabeth Shenton. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Edward, Thomas, Beatrice, Mary and Louisa.  He was the oldest of the seven known children.  He died at the age of 45 in September 1894 in West Derby.²
