Thomas' father was Henry Bayley and his mother was Mary Davies. His paternal grandparents were John Bayley and Elizabeth Shenton. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Augustus, Edward, Edward, Beatrice, Mary and Louisa. He was the fifth oldest of the seven known children. He died at the age of 40 in June 1901 in Birkenhead.²
