Edward's father was Henry Bayley and his mother was Mary Davies.  His paternal grandparents were John Bayley and Elizabeth Shenton. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Augustus, Edward, Thomas, Beatrice, Mary and Louisa.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven known children.  He died about July 1916 in Birkenhead.²
