Richard was born on February 18th, 1841 in Chorlton (Wybumbury) and his baptism took place on March 19th, 1841 in Malpas.1 2  Richard's father was George Battarbee and his mother was Margaret Palin.  His paternal grandparents were George Batarbee and Mary Richards. He had three brothers and six sisters, named George, Joseph, Charles, Mary, Ann, Margaret, Harriet, Fanny and Emma.  He was the youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 54 on June 8th, 1895 in Texas (TX).

‌Richard and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on February 1st, 1869 in Liverpool.4  They had a son named Richard.
