George was born in 1775 in Hanmer and his baptism took place there on July 1st, 1775.1  George's father was John Batterbury and his mother was Elizabeth Kempster. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John, Thomas, Robert, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah and Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 49 in February 1824 in Malpas.  He was buried on February 4th, 1824 in Malpas.2
