Sarah was born in 1782 in Hanmer and her baptism took place there on June 15th, 1782.1  Sarah's father was John Batterbury and her mother was Elizabeth Kempster. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, George, Robert, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
