Rachel's father was John Allen and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Partington.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Allen and Rachel Knowles. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Joseph, John, Mary, Betty and Ellen.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven known children.
