Betty was born in 1813 in Bolton and her baptism took place on July 11th, 1813 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  Betty's father was John Allen and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Partington.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Allen and Rachel Knowles. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Joseph, John, Mary, Rachel and Ellen.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven known children.
