Paulina was born on April 3rd, 1872.  Paulina's father was Jacobus  Josua Francois Martens and her mother was Susanna Elizabeth Martens.  Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Jacobus Martens and Elizabeth Maria Roos; her maternal grandparents were Jacobus Cornelius Martens and Margaretha Susanna Cloete. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Hendrik, Jacobus, Francois, John, Wilhelmina, Margaretha, Frederika, Maria, Susanna, Christina and Martina.  She was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. She had two half-sisters named Anna and Elisabeth.  She died at the age of 79 on September 14th, 1951.
