Anna was born on May 1st, 1846.  Anna's father was Jacobus Cornelius Martens and her mother was Margaretha Susanna Cloete.  Her paternal grandfather was Jan  Thomas Martens and her paternal grandmother is Anna Maria Isabella Coetzee. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named Jan, Jan, Susanna, Margaretha, Maria, Jacoba, Geertruida, Martha and Dina.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 65 on May 26th, 1911.
