Louisia was born in 1853 in Abbey, Monmouthshire.1   Louisia's father was Richard Ward and her mother was Ann.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Ward and Sarah. She had two brothers and five sisters, named James, Alfred, Mary, Hannah, Sarah, Ellen and Fanny.  She was the sixth oldest of the eight children.
