William was born on September 5th, 1811.  William's father was William Aitchison and his mother was Elizabeth Nairne.  His paternal grandparents were John Aitchison and Janet Tweedie; his maternal grandparents were John Nairne and Janet Robertson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John, George, David, Elizabeth, Janet, Margaret and Mary Nairne.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 14 on May 8th, 1826.
