William was born on April 10th, 1777 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.  William's father was John Aitchison and his mother was Janet Tweedie.  His maternal grandparents were William Tweedie and Unknown. He had a sister named Helen.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 49 in April 1826.  He was buried in April 1826.
