Margaret was born on December 3rd, 1805 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place in Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Margaret's father was William Aitchison and her mother was Elizabeth Nairne. Her paternal grandparents were John Aitchison and Janet Tweedie; her maternal grandparents were John Nairne and Janet Robertson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, George, William, David, Elizabeth, Janet and Mary Nairne. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
