Martha was born in 1843 in Rockingham Co, NC.1 Martha's father was James Dutch Roberts and her mother was Amy Unknown. Her paternal grandparents were James Roberts and Susannah Thomas. She had two brothers named Robert and James W.. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had four half-brothers and nine half-sisters, named Adolphus Douglas, James William, John Willie, Robert Monroe 'Monk', Sarah Lou, Susie, Caroline Matilda, Martha S., Catherine Eliza, Mary Lee, Cornelia Sophia 'Nealy', Minnie and Mattie Ivie.1 General Notes
