Robert Monroe 'Monk' was born on January 1st, 1896 in Mayo Twp, Rockingham Co, NC. Robert Monroe 'Monk''s father was James Dutch Roberts and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth 'Bettie' Hill. His paternal grandparents were James Roberts and Susannah Thomas. He had a brother and two sisters, named John Willie, Minnie and Mattie Ivie. He was the second youngest of the four children. He had four half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Robert, James W., Adolphus Douglas, James William, Martha, Sarah Lou, Susie, Caroline Matilda, Martha S., Catherine Eliza, Mary Lee and Cornelia Sophia 'Nealy'. He died at the age of 38 in November 1934 in Rockingham Co, NC.General Notes
