Elbert Lawrence was born on July 4th, 1896 in Madison, Rockingham Co, NC.1 Elbert Lawrence's father was Lawrence E. 'Tosh' Roberts and his mother was Elizabeth 'Betty' Shreve. His paternal grandparents were Robert J. Roberts and Julia A. Webster. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas George, Troy, August, Harry, Leana, Julia Katherine, Eva, Nettie and Edna. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He died due to Tuberculosis at the age of 43 on January 2nd, 1940 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co, NC. He was buried on January 4th, 1940 in Salem Cemetery, Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co, NC.1 General Notes
