Mary Ann was born about 1839 in Davie Co North Carolina. Mary Ann's father was Weldon " William" Goode Foster and her mother was Zilphia "Silpha" Jarvis. Her paternal grandparents were Zenas G. Foster and Dinah Taylor. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henderson W., Alexander, Franklin "Francis", John H., Joseph Henry, Hannah and Edith Edney. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
