Elijah A. was born on March 31st, 1838 in Colchester Twp, McDonough Co, IL.1 Elijah A.'s father was George Washington Welch and his mother was Mary D. Caldwell. His paternal grandparents were Osias Welch and Elizabeth Rowland; his maternal grandparents were Samuel Caldwell and Nancy Caldwell. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named Elisha C., James M., David L., George S., Charles T., John H., William Joseph, Albert B., Amanda M., Nancy J., Mary Adaline, Sarah Isabell and Emma T.. He was the second oldest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 75 on December 17th, 1913 in Colchester, McDonough Co, IL.1 -
