Hattie Jeanette was born on December 6th, 1884 in Compton, Los Angeles, CA.1   Hattie Jeanette's father was John Franklin Smith and her mother was Martha Ellen Sackett.  Her paternal grandparents were James Smith and Jane Marcum; her maternal grandparents were Alfred Sackett and Permelia Varvell. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Marion Franklin, John Harold, Mary Permelia, Nellie Frances and Lillie.  She was the third youngest of the six children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Marcus Allen, Phillip Lafayette, William Cephus, Emma F. and Laura Jane.  She died at the age of 57 on August 29th, 1942 in Bakersfield, Kern, CA.1
