Emma F. was born in 1868 in Little Rock, Arkansas.1   Emma F.'s father was John Franklin Smith and her mother was Sarah E. Reep.  Her paternal grandparents were James Smith and Jane Marcum. She had three brothers and a sister, named Marcus Allen, Phillip Lafayette, William Cephus and Laura Jane.  She was the second youngest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Marion Franklin, John Harold, Mary Permelia, Nellie Frances, Hattie Jeanette and Lillie.  She died before 1876.1
