John Rufus Mew 
John Rufus was born on January 12th, 1841 in Beaufort Dist., SC.1 John Rufus' father was John Pringle Mew and his mother was Emily Ann Smart. His paternal grandparents were Macamee Mew and Ann Rutledge Smith. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Henry, James Alexander, Edward C., Martha Elizabeth, Florence Ann, Julia Leocardia, Laura Josephine, Mary Ellen and Harriet Isabel. He was the oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 74 on January 5th, 1916.1 General Notes
