Nancy J was born on October 23rd, 1841.1 Nancy J's father was Robert Orr and her mother was Sarah Messersmith. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Orr and Margaret Peggy Ramsey; her maternal grandparents were Andrew Messersmith and Elizabeth Sawyer. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Andrew R, Alexander S, William, Hiram, Robert, Samuel, Melinda, Elizabeth Ann, Martha Jane and Margaret. She was the youngest of the eleven children.-
