Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Evans and Jane Beverly Daniel; her maternal grandparents were William Alexander Powell and Lucy Peachy Lee. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Powell, William Alexander, James Daniel, Thomas, Maria Lee, Maria Antionette, Lucy Peachy and Llewellyn Stewart.
