Levin Powell 
Levin was born in July 1737 in Dumfries, Prince William, VA, USA.1 Levin's father was William Powell and his mother was Eleanor Peyton. His paternal grandparents were William Jr POWELL and Elizabeth "Eliza" LANE; his maternal grandparents were Valentine Peyton and Francis Linton. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John Thomas, William L, John Peyton, Margaret, Frances, Sarah and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 73 on August 23rd, 1810 in Bedford, PA, USA. Levin Powell, son of William and Elinor(Peyton) Powell, born in Prince William Co., VA in 1737, settled in Loudoun Co., VA in 1760. He had served prior to attaining his majority as a deputy to his maternal uncle, Col. Henry Peyton, then sheriff of Prince William Co. He was elected in 1774 major of the Loudoun batallion of minute-men, and he was the author of the resolutions adopted by the Loudoun county patriots, in the Committee of Safety, of which he was a member. He was in active service with the Virginia militia in its operations against Lord Dunmore in 1775, and in 1777 was commissioned lieutenant-colonel of the 16th Virginia regiment Continental Line, and was with Washington at Valley Forge and Morristown where his health was so impaired by the hardships he bore that he was forced to resign his commission. Colonel Levin Powell was a member of the Virginia Convention of 1788, which ratified and adopted the Federal Constitution. He was a presidential elector in 1796 and in 1799 was elected to the United States Congress as a Federalist and re-elected in 1801. He died at Bedford Springs, Bedford Co., PA where he had gone for his health, July 23, 1810.

POWELL, Leven, (father of Cuthbert Powell), a Representative from Virginia; born near Manassas, Prince William County, Va., in 1737; studied in private schools; deputy sheriff of Prince William County; moved to Loudoun County in 1763; engaged in mercantile pursuits; served as major in the Revolutionary Army in 1775; appointed lieutenant colonel of the Sixteenth Regiment of the Continental Line in 1777; resigned on account of ill health in 1778; member of the State house of delegates in 1779; was delegate to the Virginia ratification convention in 1788; again a member of the State house of delegates in 1787, 1788, 1791, and 1792; elected as a Federalist to the Sixth Congress (March 4, 1799-March 3, 1801); helped to build a turnpike from Alexandria, Va., to the upper country; died in Bedford, Bedford County, Pa., on August 23, 1810; interment in Old Presbyterian Graveyard.
