Elizabeth was born on May 19th, 1825 in Lehigh Co., PA. Elizabeth's father was John Troxell and her mother was Elizabeth Hittle. Her paternal grandparents were Peter Troxell and Helena Catherine Schoener. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Stephen, Tilghman Henry, Elias, William, John H., Lucianna, Maria and Margaret. She was the second youngest of the ten children.
