Whitaker W. was born in 1812 in KY. Whitaker W.'s father was John Michael and his mother was Sarah Whitaker. His paternal grandfather was Christian Michael and his paternal grandmother is Maria Barbara Eisenhauer. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Hugh, John S., Daniel N., Samuel, Cynthia, Elizabeth and Mary Ann. He was the third oldest of the eight children.
