Rebecca Jane was born on July 15th, 1795 in Chatham Co., NC. Rebecca Jane's father was Stephen+ Hobson and her mother was Deborah Marshall. Her paternal grandparents were George+ Hobson and Hannah Elizabeth+ Kinneson; her maternal grandparents were William Marshall and Rebecca Dixon. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Jacob, Benjamin, Isaac, Mary and Deborah. She was the third youngest of the six children.
