Elkanah+ Hobson 
Elkanah+ was born on October 11th, 1840 in Twin. Elkanah+'s father was Nicholas+ Hobson and his mother was Martha+ Stanley. His paternal grandparents were Silas+ Hobson and Sarah+ Hutchins; his maternal grandparents were James+ Stanley and Agnes+ Stanley. He had six brothers and seven sisters, named Silas, Nicholas, Stephen, William Stanley, Nerius, Jesse J, Emily, Rebecca, Mary Ann, Sarah, Mary, Louisiana and Martha L. He was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 72 on May 11th, 1913 in Westfield, Hamilton Cty., IN.General Notes

MY NOTE: It is possible that Elkanah's line goes back in some way to Elkanah II Cushman (b. 9/15/1678 son of Elkanah Cushman and Elizabeth Cole)) and Hester Barnes (b. 1681-1682 dau. of Jonathan Barnes and Elizabeth Hedge), based on not only names, geography, family affinities, etc., but also on the fact that these ancestors also were among the first at Plymouth, MA. Elkanah's ancestor William Barnes (. 1679-1685 ) is thought to have been born in Ireland and not England; however, many were migrating throughout England, Ireland, and other parts of Europe during that time. However, this is only speculation on my part at this time.
HISTORICAL HI-LITES: In the year 1840, Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, a 10-hour work day for federal public works employees was established, the Penny Post mail system was started, music`s Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky was born, and the future Gen. George A. Custer was born.
