Archembaud, known as "the Great", was born about 1180 in Bourbon-L'archambault, Allier, Bourbonnais/Auvergne, France.  "the Great"'s father was Seigneur Guy de Dampierre and his mother is Matilda de Bourbon.  His paternal grandfather was Seigneur William I of Dampierre and his paternal grandmother is Ermengarde de Mouchy; his maternal grandparents were Seigneur Archembaud de Bourbon VIII and Alice de Bourgogne. He had a brother named William.  He was the older of the two children.  He died  due to Slain In Battle Of Taillebourg on July 23rd, 1242 in Taillebourg.
