Ealdgyth was born about 1020 in Northumberland, England.  Ealdgyth's father was Ealdorman Ughtred Northumbria of Northumberland and her mother is Princess Aelgifu of England.  Her paternal grandfather was Earl Waltheof I of Northumberland and her paternal grandmother is Elfeda; her maternal grandparents were King Aethelred ("the Unready" (without counsel)) II of the English and Elfreda. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Alfred, Aldred, Cospatric, Eadgyth and Ealdgyth.

‌Ealdgyth and Maldred were married in a religious ceremony about 1036.  They had three sons named Gospatric, Maldred and Fergus.
