Ela was born about 1220 in Salisbury,Wiltshire,England.  Ela's father was William Longespee , Earl of Salisbury and her mother was Ela Deveraux (Countess of Salisbury).  Her paternal grandparents were "Curt Mantel" King of England Henry II and Annabel Balliol; her maternal grandparents were W (Earl of Salisbury) D'Evereux and Eleanor (Alianore) De Vitre. She had three brothers and a sister, named William, Stephen, s Earl of Ulster and Ida (Idonea) "Camvile".  She was the second youngest of the five children. She had two half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Richard, Nicholas, Ela, Isabel, Petronilla, Isa, Lora and Ela "The Younger".  She died on February 8th, 1297 in ,England.  She was buried in Oseney Abbey,Oxford,Oxfordshire,England.
