May Bell Gowen 
May Bell was born in 1883.1 May Bell's father was John Steel Gowen and her mother was Maria Jane Johnston. Her maternal grandparents were William E. Johnston and Elizabeth Miles Allen. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John Linder, Eddie Steel, Jesse Eugene, Marie L., Mattie, Irene Redden and Florence Adella. She was the oldest of the eight children.
