Irene Redden was born in July 1899 in Halletsville, Lavaca Co., Texasss.1 Irene Redden's father was John Steel Gowen and her mother was Maria Jane Johnston. Her maternal grandparents were William E. Johnston and Elizabeth Miles Allen. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John Linder, Eddie Steel, Jesse Eugene, May Bell, Marie L., Mattie and Florence Adella.
