Mattie Gowen 
Mattie was born in October 1886.1 Mattie's father was John Steel Gowen and her mother was Maria Jane Johnston. Her maternal grandparents were William E. Johnston and Elizabeth Miles Allen. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John Linder, Eddie Steel, Jesse Eugene, May Bell, Marie L., Irene Redden and Florence Adella. She was the third oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 86 in 1972.1 General Notes
