Adam H. was born on January 1st, 1794 in Rockingham Co., Virginia.1 Adam H.'s father is Jacob Meadows and his mother is MARY ARRINGTON. His paternal grandparents were FRANCIS M. Meadows and MARY Kesiah Bell. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Ephraim, JORDAN, Jeremiah, Jacob, Elizabeth Ann, Rhoda, Nancy and Mary. Adam Meadows had owned a mill on the East River prior to the Civil War. Mercer County Courthouse records show that Adam sold 108 acres of land "lying and being in the County of Mercer on the north side of East River Mountain" to James McClaugherty on February 12, 1838.
