"Note - The witness "C. W. Lee" was probably the nephew of Temple. Temple's brother, Green, had married Nancy Moffett's sister. They had son Columbus W. Lea. Who was a noted politician...and I think a lawyer, in Alabama.

After Temple's death, his widow, Nancy and some of the children eventually moved to Southeast Texas. Nancy stayed with her daughter, Margaret Lea Houston, in Huntsville. Vernal B. LEA lived very nearby.
Nancy Lea then moved to Independence, TX where she is buried. She died on Feb. 17, 1864.

I just thought I'd give a little more info on Temple Lea and family. I live about 15 miles from the City of Huntsville. There is an excellent museum housing General Sam Houston's belongings. They also have a type of living history presentation, that shows the various houses of Sam Houston, his wife Margaret and their children. One of these houses includes the bedroom and furnishings of Margaret's mother, Nancy...while she was living with them. "

Vernal B. Lea, was the fourth son of Temple Lea, of Alabama, and his wife Nancy Moffit. His wife was born June 26, 1816. Nancy Moffitt Lea, was born November 9, 1773, and died January 28, 1834, Temple Lea, was born May 1, 1780, he was the son of George Lea, of North Carolina, and he son of William Lea, of England. There were three other sons of Temple Lea, all older than Vernal B., there names are as follows: Martin A., born June 26, 1799; Henry C., born October 7, 1804; Wallace, born September 13, 1811. Also four daughters, Varilla, born November 17, 1801; Adaline, born March 26, 1808; Margaret, (Peggy) born April 11, 1819; Emily Antoinette, born February 10, 1822. Margaret and Emily, came to Texas. Emily A., as the wife of Mr. Charles Powers, and Margaret, as the wife of General Sam Houston. She outlived the General, and died at Independence, Texas, 1867, leaving children and grandchildren.

Will be sold at the Markethouse in the town of Sparta on the first Tuesday in June next: One negro fellow named Freeman, one negro woman named Betty, one negro boy named Tom, levied on as the property of James W. Armstrong to satisfy sundry executions in favor of TEMPLE LEA and others. etc. etc.(another suit-not related) signed Jesse Jones, Deputy Sheriff.
